POSING GUIDE
POSING CAN BE SCARY, BUT IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE HARD! I’m gonna teach you some great poses for your next session that work for all shapes and sizes!
HAND ON HIP, LEG CROSSED OVER
You CANNOT go wrong with this one. This creates nice angles with the body and anyone can do it. Simple place one hand on your side and cross one leg over. Point your back foot towards the ground. To make it a little more interesting, tilt your head to one side!
SITTING DOWN, ARMS AROUND KNEES/LEG
This is a personal favorite! Wrapping your arms around one leg or both forms a simple triangle shape with your body and legs, making it a flattering sitting pose. For added effect, remove one arm from the leg and lean on it, creating another triangle that compliments your figure.
MINI DRESS/SKIRT? NO PROBLEM
When getting your photo taken, it’s always important to be aware of your clothing. A flattering pose for smaller dresses and skirts is with one leg extended further (typically the one closest to the camera) while leaning back on one arm. This creates a series of triangular shapes that makes a pose dynamic. Keep knees pointed AWAY from the camera. Leaning on the knees with one arm propped on the face is another great version.
LEAN INTO IT!
There is a 90% change you have something nearby you can lean against. A tree, a building, a car, a sign, a homeless person asking for money. Anything you can lean against opens up doors of opportunity for some great pictures! Lift one arm above your face to stretch your body and boost your pose. If that feels awkward, cross one arm and use the other to play with your hair for coverage. You can also stand behind a prop or wall for more comfort.
USE PROPS
Props are fantastic for bringing your photos to life! Take anything you’re interested in and bring it to your session. If you like music, bring albums! If you like cars, bring it! If you’re into video games, makeup, sports, or reading - bring that controller, the lip gloss, the soccer ball, or your favorite series - there’s always something you can carry that’ll add to the photo.
BEST FRIENDS!
Who says you have to get your photos taken alone? You can always opt for a best friends session and create some memorable moments together. Also, they’re a great prop!!
Practice these in front of a mirror, use your phone, whatever you have to do to get used to these before your session. The more you try these out, the more comfortable you’ll feel when it’s time to get your pictures taken. Take care!!
